Our company has a very long and unique history! It started way back in the 16th century at the early Swedish iron ore mining and iron working industries. The region had excellent supplies of all what was needed for iron and steel production: iron ore, vast forests to supply the charcoal and fuel for the furnaces, rivers to produce mechanical and, later, electric energy.

1873 we became a limited Company and were named Fagersta Bruk. Carbon steel wire rod and wire were launched eleven years later.

1882, Johan August Brinell, started as chief engineer at our Company. He completed his invention for measuring metal hardness and it was presented in the exhibition stand of Fagersta Bruk at the world exhibition in Paris year 1900.

1921 we started rolling stainless wire rod and were most likely the first mill in the world to do that.

1984 we changed our Company name to Fagersta Stainless and focused on stainless wire rod and wire.

Today we are the world´s leading supplier of stainless wire rod and wire.

Johan August Brinell, worked as chief engineer at our Company 1882 – 1903. During that time he managed to double our production. He also completed his invention for measuring metal hardness and it was presented in the exhibition stand of Fagersta Bruk at the world exhibition in Paris year 1900.

One way of measuring metal hardness is in units of Brinell. Johan August Brinell himself worked as chief engineer at our company 1882 – 1903. During that time he completed his invention for measuring metal hardness, and it was presented in the exhibition stand of Fagersta Bruk at the world exhibition in Paris year 1900. When you come and visit us, you can see this machine in the main entrance at our headquarters.

Our company exhibited at the world exhibition in Paris year 1900. In the middle on the front row you can see Johan August Brinell himself, who was our chief engineer from 1882 – 1903.

If you come and visit us in Fagersta, half of the exhibition stand can be viewed at the museum next to our headquarters.
